Covenant University Student Expelled For Watching Pornography! Drags School To Court via @BBCNaija

An expelled student of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun state has dragged the institution to court, challenging his illegal expulsion over allegations of watching pornography and secular music on his laptop.

The student, Vwamhi Longji Felix, stated that before he was expelled his parents had spent not less than N10 million on his school fees and other expenses. He was a 400 level student of Communication Technology reportedly expelled on 23rd November 2012, following a night raid by the Student Affairs' Unit of the institution. This was followed by his appearance before the school's disciplinary panel which recommended his expulsion.

Vanguard reports that at the resumed hearing of the matter yesterday, the prosecuting counsel Segun Fatoki, told the court that Felix was allegedly expelled without an opportunity of a proper hearing or viewing the evidence in accordance with the standard practice as guaranteed by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999.

He also claimed that his expulsion was a violation of Section 44 of Chapter 4 of the student Handbook of the Covenant University.

However, the school in its counter affidavit stated that in the school hand book it was noted that students are not allowed to be in possession of unholy films and home video or circular music tapes, either stored or directly in the computer or listen through the use of computer radio or any other electronic device when on campus during an academic session.
Also, the school claimed that it is an offence that will attract punishment of expulsion for any student who indulges himself or herself in public display of or be in possession of pornographic films or photographs, exploring or viewing pornographic websites on the internet.

Vanguard reports that after listening to both parties, Justice Mobolaji Ojo of Ogun State High Court said they should allow every individual to grow life that they need to live adding that if at age 15 to 17 they don't live that life, they would live it when they are 30 to 35 because of too much rules. "A youth must live like a youth and an adolescent must live like an adolescent. If all of the traits of a youth are not allowed to be exhibited at the right time, it would be done at the wrong time," Vanguard quoted him as saying. The case was adjourned till March 27, 2013.

[Headlines]: Silverbird boss advocates N300bn transport subsidy

ABUJA—Ben Murray-Bruce, Chairman of the Silverbird Group, Monday, called on the Federal Government to set up an urban mass transit system policy that will see it investing N300 billion annually, in subsidising transportation and upgrading of key transport infrastructure.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to Vanguard Newspaper, in Lagos, Murray-Bruce also advocated the spending of N900 billion by the government on strategic national projects across the length and breadth of the country.

The funds, according to him, would be sourced from money saved from the partial and total withdrawal of subsidy.

According to him, the government said last year that removal of the fuel subsidy would allow the N1 trillion spent on fuel subsidy in 2011 to be used for improving electricity supply, health and education; instead, it should spend N200 billion on transport subsidy annually.

Also, N100 billion, he said, should be spent on annual investments in buses and taxis, infrastructure — bus shelters, bus terminals, bus depots, roads; and institutional, regulatory and legal strengthening, among others.

He maintained that other sectors, such as agriculture, aviation, textile, among others, have intervention funds, but wondered why same cannot be extended to the transport sector.

He said: "After the fuel subsidy protests, the government backed down and reduced the subsidy, raising fuel prices to N97 per litre.

"As a result, last year, we spent an estimated N1.2 trillion on fuel subsidy. We believe the fuel subsidy is basically a transportation issue, and the solution therefore has to be transport driven.

"After worldwide consultation with public sector and urban transport experts, the identified solution is an efficient and subsidised public transport system implemented as social policy, much like health and education.

"In other nations worldwide, oil price increases do not translate to an increase in transport fares because subsidised and efficient public transport systems exist."

He noted that no individual, irrespective of the social status, should spend more than 25 per cent or 35 per cent of their take-home pay on public transportation.

He added: "We do not have a transport policy, that is fundamental. Historically, every time there is a price increase in transportation, the government will rush and provide buses for Labour and transporters. Providing buses in a crisis, does not solve anything.

"Half of those buses are put to personal use, most of them end up only in Lagos, because the economy makes Lagos the most viable place to run transport. The buses will not be in Sokoto where people are poorer and cannot afford the cost of transportation, market value cost as in Lagos.

"So the policy of providing buses when there is a crisis is fundamentally wrong. Transportation is subsidised all over the world. In Ethiopia, when there is a crisis, you do not see people going over the street rioting because transport is subsidised.

"When anybody in Nigeria gets on a plane and goes to London, he catches a bus, but how many people in the bus know the price of a litre in England? No body cares! It is like that also in New York, South Africa, among others, why do people care in Nigeria?"

Wow! Fan writes Love Letter To Banky W

Dear Banky,

Please find below, 10 reasons why you should be my lover. I look forward to your favourable response.

Here goes:

1. I am a Fantastic Cook – For someone who loves cooking the way I do, it's only right that I find someone who loves good food. Really babe, I know food like science. I have cooking on a lock down and I LOVE to experiment. Do you remember when you said this?

"I like fun girls; girls who love music and can dance because I love to dance. If you can cook it's a huge plus because I am a sucker for good food. I am not a sweet tooth; I don't eat cakes, candy, chocolate etc. I will eat ice cream once in a blue moon but if you give me goat meat, rice, chicken or beef, I am VERY happy. I also like friendly, go-getter girls that have their own thing going on. So I can be inspired by what they do as well"

2. I am a Huge Fan - I have been following your work from the Undeniable EP! I nearly killed my room mates in Uni with the tracks from "Back in The Building". Every line from each song sounded like you were crooning specially for me.

I have all your songs and your videos on my computer. They're even backed up on my external harddrive. You know how these things know how to mess up and crash. Mba! I can't risk that happening. I even have all your videos. The Etisalat and Samsung ones are not excluded. If it has Banky in it, then I have it. You need a lover who believes in you and roots for you every step of the way. I don't like how you guys did "police and tiff" video for "Feeling It" but I trust that you knew what you were doing when you decided to go for that theme. I mean, surely love is something worth fighting for. I will leave talking about how I tirelessly and endlessly pored over everything you posted in The Bank Statements. Oh Banky, please say YES!

3. I Do Not Care about the Size of your Head - Can we all agree to rest the Banky "head" jokes? I mean, they're overplayed out and tired already. Dear Bankole, I do not care about the size of your head. I've spent so long staring at your photos that I no longer see anything out of place. You see sweetie, where others see a humongous orb that needs to be covered up with a hat, I see body part that sits quite nicely on a well toned neck. Heck! How many people can rock different hats like that?

Where others see a huge head, I see the fact that inside head lies a lot of intelligence and business acumen. You see Banky, you should be my lover because like you, I'm an entrepreneur and we will form a formidable team together. Inside that head lies the smart that came up with the appropriate retort for Dr. Reuben Abati when he tried to smutify the work of young people in the entertainment industry. So you see, I don't care about the physical size of your head. I know for a fact that the space in between your ears, in its wide expanse is one of the reasons why you should say yes. Banky, be my lover!

4. I Do Not Believe Everything I Read - I am a smart, young woman who knows not to believe everything in the media. I know that newspapers and magazines sometimes colour the truth to get more people to buy their products. The fact that you're a talented super-star automatically means that your name alone drives traffic to social media platforms. You should be my lover because I choose to trust anything you tell me. I will not blindly believe any and everything in the news. All that talk about how you hang out in a particular bar in Lagos because you play for the other team will not be believed by me. I will be your friend and your partner. The papers and blogs can write whatever they like, I'll dutifully believe you and only what is logically plausible. You know what's even more fantastic? I'm a writer! Which means that there is no need to get a publicist to do a shoddy job of issuing press releases with regards to your music… We can keep it in the family. Say Yes, Banky, say YES!

5.I Love your Surname – The way it rolls of the tongue and how every time it rains I look for Wellington boots just to have the chance to say that name willy nilly!

It doesn't matter that it's more than two syllables, I'm sure I can manage. It's just so sweet. Baby, let me be your Mrs "DOBLIYOU"

6. I Would Love you AND your Sideburns -There's a thin line between love and hate; boo, your side burns is that line. Baby, I am not a fan of your side burns but I promise to love you and your sideburns forever. I promise not to go all Delilah on you and sneak in a Wahl product. No, I wont.

Banky, let's not lie, you are one FINE specie of a man. I appreciate a man who looks good and dresses good and you've shown consistency over the years. They say that a man can't have everything in life and as such I'm willing to concede that the sideburns are the one thing that tries to take away from perfection. Baby, I love how you look with or without the annoying facial hair and one thing is for sure, I wont leave you for a better looking man. I'm consistent and diligent like that. Say YES, babe! Just say the Y word Meesta W.

7. I am Capable -  In your interview with BN you said:
"Also, apart from time, there's the question of trying to find the right person which is the million dollar question. Because in my line of work you tend to meet with either real big fans or people that you just don't really identify with. There is always the question of whether this person will love the real me. Everything is so jumbled together because my music personality and my real personality are kind of the same…"

Boo, I am all you need and more. I am that girl who will make you smile. I will look beyond the public veil and see the real you. Passionate, kind and energetic; I am that girl who is demure when I need to be and I'd gladly knock your socks off because it is you. You mentioned the fact that you have a hectic work schedule, boo, I'm a professional too. I understand work ethics and diligence in my endeavours. Heck, I'm a LAWYER AND a WRITER. Baby, I wont be twiddling my thumbs waiting for you to bring home the bacon. Rather, we'd have intellectually stimulating discourses over the phone and over Skype while you're away and when you're home we'd cuddle in front of the TV and watch re-runs of our favourite shows. I'd gladly make you goat meat or chicken peppersoup to comfort you when your team, Arsenal, does what it does best.

8. I LOVE your Voice – There's a lilt that sounds almost too good to be true. It's the twang of down to earth mixed with the slight Yankee accent. It is there in that little laugh of yours that made me want to tear out the eyes of that girl you were grinding up against on the day of the R&BW concert. It is that voice that has made you a multi-award winning singing sensation. I was rather mesmerized by your performance at the concert. The only problem was that blasted Seyi Law! He was VERY funny! An agent of the devil, sent to distract me from making you the sole focus of my attention. Baby, that Grand Love Project was a great show. It was classy and sweet. I mean, I was really miffed that y'all started 4 hours behind schedule, but baby, I forgive you. Love keeps no record of wrong doing after all.

Banky, you can SING! It would be an honor to be with someone so utterly and completely blessed with such an amazing voice. Let me ask you, here and now: Would you be my lover? Don't use me catch cruise. Please let me be the ONE! Would you be my lover? Don't say NO!

9. I Have Remained Faithful – You see, back in 2005 when people started hearing your name in the Nigerian music scene, there were very few good looking, well spoken and charismatic artistes. So there were so many girls lusting after you. And a few guys too, dare I add. But you know fickle the human mind is, they have all fizzled out. Especially with the influx of good looking celebrities in the now; Praiz, Bez, Iyanya, Lynxxx… These men have come but all they have done is try, at the very least, to shake my devotion to you. Bankole my love, you alone dey make my heart go chin ke le le. Eh chin ke le le! My heart is going gbim gbim as I write this. I have not joined the band wagon of everybody drooling over Chris Attoh. I have remained firm in the face of temptation. This is only to prove that my love for you isn't one to be blown away by every wind of sexy-looking celebrity that comes along. No, no, no! My devotion is reserved strictly for you Banky. Please, be my lover!

10. I Have Taken Time Out to Point Out 9 Reasons Above – They asked me to wait to be chosen. They said you are a super star and definitely out of my reach. They said you have actresses and beauty queens falling over themselves to be with you. They said I stand no chance with Mr. Capable, Mr. Strong Thing, the Life of the Lagos Party, Chairman E.M.E; they said all that and more… but I said NO! This is my year of being proactive and taking the bull by the horn. Time will not permit me to describe how loud I screamed when Christiane Amanpour played "Change" and mentioned your name on her program. I'm also constrained for space or else I'd have regaled you of tales of bravery; of how BankyBoo was in the front lines for Enough is Enough, Occupy Ojota & the Anti-fraud drive. Ah! Banky, no greater lover would you have than me.Please say you would be mine and let me have "the W experience".

Read Through Denrele's Emotional Tribute To Goldie

In case you don't know, Goldie actually died in his arms. So you can imagine his pain.

"My super star friend sways away and I stand watching till she fades on the horizon and someone at my side says "she's gone"...Gone where?

Gone from my sight, that is all. She is just as gorgeous now as when last I saw her.
Her slightly disappearing figure and total loss from my sight is in me, not in her.

And just at that moment, when someone at my side says she's gone, there are others who are watching her coming over their horizon and other voices take up a glad shout - There she comes! That is what dying id - An horizon and just the limit of our sight.

My lifeline, my lexicon, Therapist and support system…we have known lots of pleasure, at times endured ppai, we have lived in the sunshine and walked in the rain. I had acute malaria (was shaking terribly) but performed "skibobo" with you at the Industry Night and Loud&Proud show, I sprained my ankle but still shot your three videos in a row in S/A.

I left my family house and moved in with you and your family right after all the Big Brother Africa madness, I did all the damage control….

I fought every organizer simply cos I wanted you on the bill with me and split my show earnings with you, I dragged you to the American Embassy even if it meant I had to get up at 4am. I endured negative criticism because shallow minds couldn't comprehend your brand essence – I started wearing block heels (you got me the most fabulous pair of Jeffrey Campbells) and I damned the consequences. I recorded the reality show "Tru Friendship" with you because you went on and on about it and I wanted to please you.

I have been your fierce-alter ego in all your videos, I have fought your fights, endured countless eccentric P.As with you…I can go on and on and this is how you leave me? You chose an eternal sleep over a fabulous life with me? Lest I forget, I ate the entire box of birthday chocolates Bola sent to you!

Phew, I can't type anymore, I'm playing "Good To Me" (always disturbed you to release that song) and my notepad is a misty mass of my never ending tears. So sad when people who give you the best memories, become a memory!

The Goldie I knew, despite your success and worldwide recognition, still wondered, "Am I good enough?" "Am I pretty enough?" "Will they like me?" It was this burden that made you great…And that made you stumble in the end.

Goldie if you can hear me now, you weren't good just good enough – You were abso-frigging-lutely GREAT! You sang the whole damn song without a band- you made the picture of a showbiz star look so perfect!

Your parting has left a void, but I will fit it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss and oh yes, these things I too will miss. Even though we are separated and for a time apart, I am not alone cos you're forever in my heart. I will move mountains to continue your legacy, I will crash ceilings to spread your good works, I will break barriers to sell your "market" but above all, I will cherish the awesome times we spent together…You will forever be my source of infinity!

We wore the same shoe size and had the same body proportions. You made me start strutting lashes and recall I wore that black dress of yours you never got to wear? No masterpiece can ever match your face! To everyone reading this piece, let my dear friend rest in peace! Speak no evil about her, she was too good to be true!

I can hear you say to me…Mbirikoko, do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep, Do not stand at my grave and cry…I am not there, I did not die!

"You should have seen the shock on my face when it happened. For a second I forgot I was in London. Lynxx! The Ladies Man, Read What He Told Saturday Beats | #YouthExcelFirstBank

Here is what the "Utunu and Fine Lady" crooner Lynxx told Saturday Beats;

"I am aware that they refer to me as the ladies man'. I think the reason behind that is the brand that I have created for myself. It is the brand that I came out with and maintained. I think it is the reason they label me with that. The core of my fans is actually ladies because I make songs for them. I have been coping with all the craziest of the ladies by the grace of God. My goal is always to remain focused. Ladies have done a lot of crazy things to me. Most times, when I am out of Lagos to perform, the ladies always find my room and leave certain items outside my door. I have got all kinds of items -shirts, panties, bras – name it," he said.
Good for the ladies man, K

Energy Drinks Cause High Blood Pressure, (LASUTH)Doctor Warns

Wale Oke, The Chief Medical Director Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), on Monday said the consumption of energy drinks can cause high blood pressure and such beverage should be treated as drugs.

While speaking as a guest on Channels Television's breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, Dr. Oke said energy drinks have been able to penetrate the Nigerian market are treated as beverages which is why it does not go through rigorous and extensive research by National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

He said, "These drinks contain caffeine which can cause individuals with health challenges to become hypertensive. Consumption of the drinks can also increase blood pressure or cause abnormal heart rate."

He revealed that non-sugar energy drinks have been directly linked with blood clot formations in the human body and have been banned in over two European countries.

He opined that Nigerians have embraced the'fad' in order to help them keep awake whilst being ignorant to the internal damages the drinks cause.

He advised that Nigerians should cultivate the habit of visiting the hospital for regular comprehensive tests.

Burger King Twitter account 'hacked' with McDonalds logo

However, Burger King's account has now been suspended

US fast-food company Burger King has said its Twitter account may have been hacked, after its profile picture was changed to a McDonalds logo.

The background picture on the account showed Fish McBites and some posts contained racial slurs, obscenities and references to drugs.

The firm says it asked Twitter to suspend the account and @BurgerKing has not posted since 13:15 EST (18:15 GMT).

Burger King says it will post an apology on its Facebook page.

The account tweeted that the company had been sold to rival hamburger chain McDonalds.

"We just got sold to McDonalds! Look for McDonalds in a hood near you," one post read.

It also posted messages such as: "If I catch you at a Wendys, we're fightin!"

The tweets stopped after a little more than an hour.

Meanwhile, McDonalds tweeted in response to the apparent hack: "We empathize with our @BurgerKing counterparts. Rest assured, we had nothing to do with the hacking."

It is not known who might be responsible for the breach.

The development comes in the wake of a scandal across at least 12 European countries, in which it emerged that some products labelled as beef contained horsemeat.

Burger King has said it has cut ties with some of its suppliers as a precaution, in the wake of the scandal.
