#NewsOnTheGo - Five Arrested with N108m Fake Currencies

Five men were on Monday paraded by the Lagos State Police Command for printing local and foreign currencies.

Two of the suspects, Femi Jacob and Ramon Adeoye, were arrested at Ogunlana Street, Alagbado with eight printing machines and a large quantity of printed fake notes in Naira, Dollars, Pounds, Euros and Cedis totalling N8m.

Isaka Usman and Akeem Ayobado were also arrested at Ikorodu with 14 printing machines, one cutting machine and N100m fake notes. The fifth suspect, Onyeka Ibe, was allegedly an Anambra-based buyer, who usually comes to Lagos to buy fake currencies.

The state Command's Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Manko, said, "This syndicate has been in operation for over five years. Their customers are spread across several African countries like the Republic of Benin, Mali, Ghana, Togo, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

"The Officer-in-Charge of SARS, Superintendent of Police Abba Kyari, got a tip-off about the operations of the syndicate some weeks ago and mounted surveillance at Jacob's Alagbado residence.

It was Jacob's confessional statement after his arrest that led to the arrest of Ayodabo who is the leader of the syndicate.

"This case will eventually be handed over to operatives of Interpol because of the negative implications the fake currencies outflow might have had on the economies of the West African countries."

The CP said the cutting machine was owned by Ayodabo and procured from the Republic of Benin

One of the suspects, Ibe said, "I often come down to Oluwole Street in Lagos Island. That is where Ayodabo has his shop. I would spend N5,000 to get currency worth N100,000. I usually buy currency worth between N500,000 and N700,000."

The fake notes which were on display during the parade looked real enough to have kept the syndicate in business for five years with customers spread across the continent.

Adeoye told PUNCH METRO that he was arrested at Iyana Ipaja, adding, "I am just an errand boy, my duty was to deliver fake currencies to buyers. I was on my way to deliver fake notes worth N700,000 to one Ibrahim when I was arrested."

Kris Humphries Rejected $10M From Kim Kardashian To Settle Divorce

According to Radaronline.com

Kim Kardashian offered her estranged husband, Kris Humphries, a cool $10 million in a desperate bid to settle their bitter divorce battle once and for all — but he turned her down flat — RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting. "After Kim filed for divorce, she offered Kris a $10 million payoff, with the agreement that he would not continue to pursue an annulment to their marriage on the grounds of fraud," a source close to the situation tells Radar exclusively.

Unfortunately for Kim though, money didn't sway the NBA star, and he vowed to stick to his guns and prove in a court of law that their short-lived marriage was a sham. "Kris flatly rejected the offer because it has never been about money for him," the source says. "He wants to be able to marry in a church again, with a clear conscience, when he finds someone special. Kris is deeply religious and he believes that the only way he can do that is if his marriage to Kim is annulled.

"Kris wants to move on with his life just as badly as Kim does – he is constantly getting heckled by NBA players and fans – and he just wants to be able to close this disastrous chapter in his life once and for all. If Kim would just agree to grant him the annulment, they could both move on with their lives."

The Untold Story Of How Don Jazzy Gave Life To A Young Man’s Dream T.O.C

This is a true life story of how Michael Collins Ajereh, better known as Donjazzy, changed the life of a young man, Tochy K Jnr Oyeoku also known as TOC. The story is told by TOC himself and testifies to the
benevolent spirit of the media-shy Mavin CEO.First of all; Introduction, na me be TOC. am an upcoming singer student in Bells University lol.

When I left my house for EME album launch party at club deuces
couple of months back, I didn't know I was going to meet my break through. We spoke for a bit and he asked me to give him a call so we can continue our discussion some other time. His private number was
like a huge asset for me, I crammed it immediately and saved it on my two phones, I kept on calling and sending text messages, so sad no one was picking, no text was replied either. At a stage I lost all hope and continued my Under G striving.

One blessed day I was about to doze off when my phone started vibrating. I almost ignored the call to get back to whoever when I wake up, looking on my phone screen I saw "don jazzy" you needed to have seen how I sat up at once, the sleep flew away like a bird that escaped from her cage. I booked an appointment and came over to his house.
What a wonderful mansion? I said as I stepped into his compound. He asked me to play my works, afterwards he complained I sound like Wizkid and Dammykrane which isn't far from what D prince, Dr. Sid and Wande are doing. I pleaded to him to give me just 30 seconds
to freestyle there and then in his studio, I guess he saw the zeal and desperateness in me.

"T.O.C am going to give you an amount of money to work with big producers in the industry like Sarz, Samklef and J-Sleek," he said, for the past 5 years I haven't been that happy. I didn't know how exactly to start expressing my feelings, should I kneel down? or lie down?. The joy was just too overwhelming I kept on saying thank you sir! I quickly dropped my account number for him. The next morning. I received an alert from Mavin Records! (don't worry about the amount
What more can I say? Don jazzy is a blessing man am forever grateful boss!

Apparently Don Jazzy is one of the Nigerian artists that gives back to the society/fan, this is coming in in to urge other artists. You can emulate him or do better.

2-Year Old Boy Freed After N5M Ransom Was Paid

Kidnapped Nigerian two-year old school boy, Emmanuel Alonge has been returned to his parents by the kidnappers after his family paid N5 million ransom.

Alonge was kidnapped by yet to be identified gunmen on Monday at Iju area of Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria and taken to an unknown destination.
The kidnappers had earlier demanded for N150 million, which they later slashed to N100 million and then to N20 million and later to N5 million

Mr. Olusegun Alonge, father of the boy told P.M. NEWS on phone this morning that the boy has been returned to the family by the kidnappers after paying N5 million ransom.

The overjoyed Alonge said the family picked up the boy around 3.00 this morning at Car Wash bus stop, Alakuko, where the kidnappers dropped him.

"I thank God, the baby is fine. They treated him well. The house boy is still with the police as they are still investigating the case," he said.

Little Alonge was being taken to school in the parent's Lexus Jeep in the company of the driver (Daniel) and the private nurse (Mrs. Adeyemo) when the kidnappers who ambushed and overpowered them snatched the little boy from them at gun point.

It was gathered from eye witnesses that the kidnappers wore masks during the operation and had been in the vicinity awaiting their victim some hours before the time.

It was learnt that when they arrived the area, they drove and packed their black Mitsubishi Montero jeep at a distance of about seven buildings away from the residence of the Alonge's.

An eye witness had said that, "Truly, we noticed the black jeep packed, but we didn't suspect any ulterior motive because the passengers were outside playing and chasing each other about, until when we noticed them moving again to block the coming Lexus jeep carrying the boy to school."

Another eye witness, Kamilu Sulaimon said that trouble began for the Alonge family when the Montero jeep pretended to be moving away from the Willisco Street only to block the Lexus jeep.

"The jeep refused to give way to the Lexus jeep and at the same time refused to move on; the driver of the Lexus jeep started to hoot and suddenly, the kidnappers alighted and demanded for the boy.

"We noticed that the driver refused, this made the assailants threatened to break the glass, eventually, the driver opened the door when he saw the guns with them, they threw the private nurse under the SUV car, and sped off with the child," he explained.

The nurse, Adeyemo explained that because she was thrown under the vehicle and that Daniel could not ride on her, it gave the assailants ample time to drive off before the chase that followed could be effected.

According to her, the kidnappers hit her several times with gun butt when she refused to release the boy, adding that "when they opened the door, they told us 'we are not going to kill you if only you give us the boy'; I then told them that I will not release the boy, until they kill me, that was when they hit me in the head and when I slumped they threw me under the vehicle."

However, the arrested driver, Mr Gabriel Olajubu and the house boy, Stephen and two guards are still with the police in connection with the incident.

True Story - Why Nigeria Was blacked out of #AFCON Broadcast

It is not the federal governments fault, however it is unfortunate that the country had found itself in such a difficult situation.
Nigeria television audience and radio listeners were blacked-out of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) broadcast that began on Saturday in South Africa after failing to reach an agreement with the right-holders.

Confederation of African Football (CAF) broadcast rights owners: LC2 and the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), (BON represents all the terrestrial radio and television stations in Nigeria), have failed to agree on the broadcast price to air all the matches of this year's AFCON.

Nigeria was charged $14.5 million (£8million)
South Africa was charged $4million
Ghana was charged $500thousand
Bon offered $1.2million, which was rejected by JCM.

After the referral of BON to LC2 for further negotiations, the fee was further dropped to £4.5million from £8million but BON insisted on paying $2.5million.

The duo dint reach any conclusion as at the last meeting that held in the country's capital, Abuja, on Monday, 14th of January, 2013.

BON Chairman, Abubakar Jijiwa however said the offer is still on the table for LC2 to consider.

Agreeing with BON stance on the issue, the Group Managing Director of one of Nigeria's largest broadcast operators, Tony Akiotu of DAAR Communications plc said-"In the last one decade, most of us in the industry had not made any profit from broadcasting AFCON, but because of our love for the industry and the game in our country, we have kept at it, but it's about time we stop this regular act of events marketers ripping us off."

As at the time of filing in this report at 4.20PM Nigerian time, the deadlock still stands which could mean for the first time in AFCON's history, Africa most populous nation of about 160 million people might not watch AFCON 2013 live on terrestrial television which majority of the populace depends on as compared to the very few that have access to cable television to watch the matches live.

Out of the list, Nigeria has the lowest GDP, so why on earth would they charge us this much? We need to stand UP.
For your information, Punch Newspaper's visa was not granted by the S/A embassy, in order to block all means of broadcast.

Some Corps Members Can’t Speak Good English – NYSC DG

The Director-General of NYSC, Brig-Gen. Nnamdi Okore-Affia has bad news: he revealed yesterday that some Nigerian graduates taking part in National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme can hardly communicate in the English Language.

It was a shocking revelation in Ilorin, capital of Kwara state, as Okore-Affia gave a speech during the 2013 batch A pre-mobilisation workshop.

"Unfortunately too, we have corps members who can hardly communicate in English Language let alone being able to teach in the classrooms. This worrisome development has resulted in a situation whereby members of the public wrongly condemn the NYSC for the poor academic standards displayed by these corps members,'' Okore- Affia said.

He said the inability of academic institutions to produce eligible corps members had become an extraordinary task for NYSC management.

According to reports, many principals of schools and other employers were ejecting corps members posted to their schools and offices and stressed that it was difficult to even re-orientate such corps members.

"Going through the figures presented for mobilisation by Corps Producing Institutions (CPIs) in year 2012, it was discovered that many exceeded the admission quota approved by regulatory bodies by as much as 500 per cent in extreme cases," he said.

The University was “not carried along” in the research – UNIBEN Authorities Denounce Professor’s Alleged Cure to HIV/AIDS

Authorities of the University of Benin, Edo state have faulted the claim made by one of its Professors who announced that he had discovered a drug for the cure of HIV/AIDS.

On Tuesday, Professor Isaiah Ibeh, the Dean of School of Basic Medical Sciences at the University told newsmen that the herbal drug had undergone "series of successful tests" and it would "permanently take care of what over time seems to have defied all solutions".

As reported in Vanguard, he said that the oral drug was made from plants extraction in Nigeria for the possible cure of the pandemic, HIV and AIDS virus adding that research on the project was started in 2010 which culminated in the development of "Deconcotion X (DX)–Liquid or Bioclean 11 for the cure of HIV and AIDS".

Ibeh also said that the drug had been exposed to series of medical examinations both in Nigeria and in the USA. He added that the drug had performed well on patients with the HIV virus and had shown evidence of total restoration of damaged tissues.

"The result showed an increase in the body weight of the individual administered with DX. The body weight was statistically significant when compared with the control group," he was quoted as saying.

He said that further tests were being conducted to determine "at what point will a patient become negative after being administered the drug?" but that preliminary results showed that of the five latest patients orally administered with the drugs, in up to seven months , "three of them were siro negative while two were still faintly positive.''

His announcement was trailed with controversy which yesterday culminated in the announcement made by the authorities of the University. The Provost, College of Medical Sciences of the University, Prof. Vincent Iyawe told Vanguard that the institution was not in agreement with Prof. Ibeh's claim for now, alleging that the University was, "not carried along" in the research.

"The School would like to take credit for a break- through, but it cannot align with the breakthrough because the College was not consulted, the University was not consulted, and he did not carry anybody along.

"There are protocols and procedures. Going from stage to stage, we ought to give it clinical trials, by taking it to the Federal Ministry of Health to do clinical trials and many other things involved. We also needed to take it to National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, and many other things had to be done before you come out with your claims, in addition to taking it to World Health Organisation."

He said all the university was doing was to protect Prof. Ibeh and the integrity of the institution.

Nigeria’s University Of Benin Unveils ‘CURE’ For HIV/AIDS

A cure for Human Immunodeficiency Virus, HIV, and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, AIDS, has been discovered, a Professor at the University of Benin said on Tuesday.

Isaiah Ibeh, the Dean of the School of Basic Medical Science of the University, said in Benin that the herbal drug has undergone "series of successful tests".

"We are at the threshold of making history, in the sense that we seem to have with us something that will permanently take care of what over time seems to have defied all solutions.
"We are talking about the latest discovery ofan oral drug made from plants extraction in Nigeria for the possible cure of the pandemic, HIV and AIDS virus," he said.

Mr. Ibeh said research on the project started in 2010 and culminated in the development of "Deconcotion X (DX)–Liquid or Bioclean 11for the cure of HIV and AIDS".

He said that while the existing retroviral drugs are intervention drugs for the management of AIDS, the new discovery is apossible cure.

"We have tried to look at the product first; its toxicological analysis and discovered thatit has a large safety margin. This means that if animals or human beings are exposed to it, they will not suffer any serious harm at all from the exposure.

"It also helped us to know the quantity we can conveniently give to animals and will feel secure that nothing untoward will happen. We have also done the bacteriological analysis on it, after which welooked at its effect on the virus and the result was quite revealing and refreshing."

Mr. Ibeh also said that the drug had been exposed to series of medical examination both in Nigeria and in the USA.

He added that the drug had performed well on patients with the HIV virus and had shown evidence of total restoration of damaged tissues.

"The result showed an increase in the body weight of the individual administered with DX," he said. "The body weight was statistically significant when compared withthe control group."

He said that further tests were being conducted to determine the point at which "a patient becomes negative after being administered the drug?"

"This verification is necessary because it is what is used to measure whether infection is still there or not. So we need to know the siro-convention time.

"But preliminary results showed that of the five latest patients orally administered with the drugs, our findings is that up to seven months , three of them were siro negative while two were sill faintly positive," he said.

Mr. Ibeh appealed for support from the Federal Government and relevant bodies to assist the university with relevant equipment to sustain the research.

Proudly Nigerian: Nigerian Sworn In As Councillor In Belgium

Nigerian-born Collins Nweke, was on Friday sworn in as Councillor of West- Flanders Constituency in Belgium.

Nweke, a member of the Belgian Green Party, was re-elected last year having made history in 2006 when he became the first non-Belgian born politician to win an elective position in West-Flanders.

With his re-election, Nweke's mandate includes issues bordering on the economy, social policy, international development and minority priority.
"The last several years were a learning curve where some important results were equally achieved.

" I will continue to have my eyes on the ball as far as social policy is concerned, but with an expanded portfolio that includes the economy and international development.

"Small and medium enterprises are the engine of the local economy and a business-friendly environment will not only keep existing businesses in good shape but will attract new investments and create jobs.

"A number of good initiatives are ongoing and obviously these would be continued and enhanced. "It will also make sense to re-evaluate some economic activities that are liabilities to the local economy," He told NAN's Western Europe Correspondent.

Nweke, who spoke on international development, said the challenges of global meltdown were insurmountable. "I think that the relationship between the western economies and the emerging ones has for too long being based on the wrong premise. He said that partnership, rather than charity, should be the bedspring on which the larger part of the relationship rests.

"The economies of the west are showing signs of saturation, while there are huge developmental potential in the emerging economies. So let's build a relationship of mutual benefits." Nweke, 46, years, from Ibusa in Delta state, migrated to Belgium in 1993; he is currently the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora in Europe.

The Secret Gay Club in Lagos EXPOSED!!

About 50 people, mostly men, crowd around the front porch of a social club in Lagos, Nigeria's biggest city cheering on a shy-looking young man, who proceeds to sing a ballad.

Backstage, another man puts on his wig and takes a quick glance at his pocket mirror, before adjusting his tight-fitting red dress. Five other men also dressed in drag outfits appear, checking on each other's make-up as they wait for their turn to perform for the crowd.

"A friend invited me here a few months ago," one chatty spectator says excitedly. "I love this place because it makes me feel at home". This gathering of members of the gay and lesbian community in Lagos is held regularly, albeit discreetly, but it could soon be illegal.

The vast majority of gay Nigerians may not be interested in this kind of event but they still have to hide their sexuality in this conservative society.

Whilst already illegal, homosexuality is widely frowned upon across Nigeria and hasbeen the subject of several bills in the National Assembly.

The Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Bill specifically outlaws same-sex unions. It also bans gatherings of homosexuals or any other support for gay clubs, organisations, unions or amorous expressions, whether in secret or in public.

'Repulsive'
The bill has been passed by Nigeria's Senate – the highest chamber – and is now being reviewed by the lower chamber, the House of Representatives. If approved, it will be sent to the president to sign it into law, after which same-sex couples could face up to 14 years in prison.

But Nigerian homosexuals complain that thestigma they face is already enough punishment for their way of life.
Kunle (not his real name), a gay man living in Lagos, is outraged by the proposed law: "How does a government think that sending someone to prison would change his or her sexual orientation?

"How logical is that?"
One of Nigeria's few openly gay human rights activists, Rashidi Williams, notes that the bill seeks to ban something which is already illegal and which no-one is publicly advocating.

"All we are asking for is to repeal the repressive laws in this country," he says.
The bill has been condemned abroad – most recently by Australian lawmakers – making its proponents see this piece of legislation as a way of protecting Nigerian society from foreign influences.

"Ours is to weigh the aggregate of opinion – what the majority of Nigerians want," says Abike Dabiri, a member of the House of Representatives.

"If majority of Nigerians want same-sex marriage, then why not?" She adds: "You have a right to your sexual preference but by trying to turn it into marriage do you realise you could be infringing on the human rights of the other person who finds it repulsive?"

In hiding
This view is echoed on the streets of this country, where religious influences, particularly from Christianity and Islam, are heavy. "How do you even become gay, not to mention wanting to get married to another man?" asks Okechukwu Ikenna, a 33-year-old software engineer, visibly irritated by the topic.

Friends and family members of gay people could get implicated if they do not report cases of same-sex unions because they could be seen as being in support of them. Critics of the bill also worry that health workers who provide HIV counselling and treatment to homosexuals could be committing an offence as well.

However, some of these doctors say they hardly ever know the sexual orientation of those they attend to because it is not a requirement for treatment and counselling, and even if the patients were to reveal that they were homosexuals, it would not affect the quality of healthcare offered.

Some lawmakers have condemned violence against homosexuals but this has done little to prevent the growing anxiety among those the bill would target as its likely adoption, inwhatever form, approaches.

Mr Williams says some gay Nigerians may seek asylum in countries where homosexualpeople are accepted, while others will have to go underground.

At the gay club, despite the jovial atmosphere, there is heightened caution, and no-one is allowed to take any photos.
The thought of being identified as being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender in a country where the public still turns to mob justice haunts some here.

And that is a huge concern for Richard (not his real name): "If you don't become discreetand try to hide yourself, even the man on thestreet will want to also act on the bill because it has been passed. "If you're walking on the street and he stones you, he knows the law would stand for him because the law is against you."
